I love their state motto, “Live free or die”. Plus, it’s so beautiful! The fall color was at its peak yesterday when I drove through.
Around 20 years ago I drove through New Hampshire and bought a Live Free or Die T shirt which was one of my favorites and it wore out. I wanted another one. Sadly, I didn’t get to shop for souvenirs in Bar Harbor, Maine as I planned but I remembered passing this on 95 and wanted to buy a shirt there.
As you’re driving South out of New Hampshire on 95 you see this exit / rest stop which is the strangest rest stop I ever saw. I haven’t been through all 50 states but I never saw a specific exit on the interstate that sells booze and lottery tickets. The sign says, New Hampshire made goods are sold there too, so I drove up and the little gift shop was closed. I saw Live Free or Die shirts through the window. I could have spent some money buying a shirt and some maple flavored snacks or maple syrup or something. Instead, I bought a pretty bottle of Kentucky bourbon for my daughter and son in law. I asked a lady if it was any good and she told me it’s popular. I’d have bought a lottery ticket for my granddaughter but they didn’t have any with unicorns or sparkles hahaha. I never buy lottery tickets. I know nothing about those things.
The liquor store was doing a big business. I guess people know New Hampshire doesn’t have a sales tax so the booze is cheaper. They were very good planners to give that store its own stop with a ramp off 95 and right back on to make it easy for you.
Lets give New Hampshire a round of applause for being so practical and amusing! You have the spirit, New Hampshire!
